Bratislava Audio Tour press release- English

Bratislava Audio Tour – MP3 guide for foreign visitors to the capital city of the Slovak Republic has been just released on the internet. It consists of eleven tracks with a total duration of more than 40 minutes. Each Bratislava visitor can download them from the website www.Bratislava-AudioTour.com and convert an iPod or other MP3 player into a travel guide and listen to points of interest about the city while strolling.

The Bratislava Audio Tour is targeted for business travellers and individual tourists who do not want to bother with travel books or hiring local guides. Therefore a city center map with an itinerary and all audio points is also part of the package. Project authors are two Bratislava enthusiasts – Slovak and American- who lacked such offering in their own town.

“Almost every traveller now carries with him some MP3-enabled device- iPod or other MP3 player or mobile phone,” says Brano Pokrivcak, project founder, “MP3 audio guide is therefore the ideal way to learn about Bratislava at their own pace and without any limits.”

Narrator, Curtis Irwin adds, “I gladly accepted the offer to participate on this project.  Despite the fact that I have lived in Bratislava for the last 6 years, ony during my work on this project did I realized how amazing Bratislava’s history.”

A regularly updated blog about the latest news form the Bratislava city life is also an important part of the project.

On this page, we publish any differences between the current situation and information provided in Bratislava Audio Tour. Any temporary or seasonal change which has not been reflected in the audio tour yet will be highlighted in this article.

We recommend to read this article before use of audio tour or print it out and take it with you.



Castle Hill

Since June 2010, a new and controversial bronze statue is placed at the outer courtyard of Bratislava Castle. It depicts Svatopluk, ruler of Great Moravian Empire, history of which we discuss also in the Castle Hill audio point. 

Inside the Saint Martin’s Cathedral
Entrance fee is now required for going inside the cathedral for all days excluding Sundays. The cathedral is under reconstruction.

Bird Fountain
The bird fountain is a fountain only partially. Water sprinkles only from the bottom reservoir this summer season (or never). An upper “bird” reservoir is dry.

Main Square
Set-up of the Main Square is changing quite frequently in order to accommodate various events over the year (concerts, feasts, Christmas markets).
It may happen that the Donor benches are temporarily replaced with the souvenir stands during summer.

Bratislava Audio Tour project is managed by enthusiasts who felt that Bratislava needed such offering.

All texts have been written specifically for these recordings having in mind these basic rules– tracks need to be understandable, not too long and balanced with not only facts and figures but also legends and interesting background information.

Bratislava has a quite small city centre which is great for our purpose- most points of interest are in walking distance.

bratilsava audio tourBratislava Audio Tour je projekt, ktorý prináša niekoľko noviniek unikátnych na slovenskom Internete:

Je to prvý sprievodca Bratislavou písaný priamo pre audio nahrávku. Viac ako štyridsať minút anglicky hovoreného textu približuje najzaujímavejšie miesta hlavného mesta Slovenska.

Nahrávka je vo formáte MP3, čo zabezpečuje jeho univerzálnu použiteľnosť na MP3 prehrávačoch, väčšine mobilných telefónov, počítačoch a PDA. Je distribuovaný výhradne cez Internet, takže nie je nutné žiadne posielanie poštou, či dokonca nakupovanie v kamennom obchode.

Cena za kompletný balík je 4.90 EUR. Užívateľ sa k nahrávke dostane okamžite po zaplatení, bez zbytočného čakania.

O autoroch:
Braňo Pokrivčák – autor námetu a scenára k audio sprievodcovi, webmaster stránky Bratislava-AudioTour.com. Vyštudovaný historik a dlhoročný bratislavský sprievodca sa dnes viac realizuje v marketingu a informačných technológiách.
Curtis Irwin – americký “hlas” audio sprievodcu a spoluautor scenára. Posledných 7 rokov žil v Bratislave a Košiciach.

Bratislava Audio Tour pozostáva z jedenásť skladieb v celkovom trvaní viac ako 40 minút.  Približuje v anglickom jazyku najzaujímavejšie miesta centra moderným spôsobom – vo forme populárnych MP3 súborov. Návštevník si ich môže prehrať z internetových stránok www.Bratislava-AudioTour.com do svojho MP3 prehrávača a počúvať výklad individuálne počas prechádzky mestom.
Bratislava sa týmto projektom zaradila medzi popredné svetové metropoly, ktoré už podobného audio sprievodcu majú, či už je to New York, Londýn alebo susedná Viedeň. Je určený pre individuálnych turistov a biznis návštevníkov, ktorí hľadajú základné informácie o Bratislave a nemajú čas na organizovanú prehliadku so sprievodcom. Súčasťou súborov je preto aj mapa centra s vyznačenou trasou a jednotlivými zastávkami. Autormi projektu Bratislava-AudioTour.com sú dvaja nadšenci – Slovák a Američan – ktorí majú Bratislavu radi a mali pocit, že podobná ponuka v ich meste chýbala.

“Dúfame, že týmto projektom naštartujeme aj ostatné mestá a inštitúcie”, hovorí autor projektu Braňo Pokrivčák. “Takmer každý zahraničný návštevník dnes cestuje s MP3 prehrávačom – či už samostatným zariadením alebo na mobilnom telefóne alebo počítači. MP3 audio sprievodca je preto ideálnym a efektívnym spôsobom, ako bez väčších investícií spropagovať nielen prehliadku miest, ale aj vnútorné priestory – výstavy, galérie a múzeá.”

Američan Curtis Irwin, ktorý nahovoril audio sprievodcu, dodáva: “S nadšením som prijal ponuku zúčastniť sa na tomto projekte. V Bratislave som žil ostatných viac ako 6 rokov, ale i napriek tomu som sa pri tejto práci dozvedel o mnohých bratislavských zaujímavostiach, o ktorých som predtým ani netušil.”
